The police, having been tipped off that Teabing's plane is transporting fugitives, order the pilot to park at the terminal rather than at Teabing's private hangar, citing a fabricated gas leak as a safety precaution. Teabing, however, instructs his pilot to ignore the order and taxis directly into the hangar, where the plane completes its usual 180-degree turn to face outward for departure. As the police cars skid to a stop outside the hangar, Langdon and Sophie drag the bound albino monk Silas down the gangway and out of sight behind the parked Jaguar limousine, while the jet's engines roar to complete the turn, masking their movement. The police swarm the hangar, guns drawn, and confront Teabing as he descends the stairs on his crutches, demanding to search the plane. Teabing, feigning indignation, refuses to allow a warrantless search and instead offers a compromise: Simon Edwards, the airport's executive services officer, can inspect the aircraft.
