Teabing Arrested

Leigh Teabing, the British Royal Historian and secret orchestrator of the night's violence, is finally unmasked and taken into custody in the Chapter House of Westminster Abbey, ending his desperate bid to seize the Holy Grail for himself. The arrest caps a confrontation in which Teabing, having already killed his accomplice Rémy Legaludec and manipulated Silas and Bishop Aringarosa, holds Sophie Neveu at gunpoint and demands Langdon's cooperation. Instead, Langdon hurls the cryptex toward the stone floor, forcing Teabing to dive for it; the cylinder lands intact but the impact shatters the vinegar vial inside, revealing that Langdon had already unlocked it. The dials spell APPLE, the password derived from Newton's tomb. Langdon extracts the papyrus scroll containing the final clue to the Grail's location. As Teabing screams for the map, Fache and British police burst in and arrest him. The historian is led away in handcuffs, his quest ended by his own hubris and the very code he could not break.

Confrontation and Betrayal

Teabing, having lured Langdon and Sophie to the Chapter House under the pretense of a hostage situation, reveals himself as the Teacher, the architect of the entire conspiracy. He admits to orchestrating the murders of Jacques Saunière and the three sénéchaux, justifying the killings as necessary to force the Priory of Sion to release the Sangreal documents, which he believed Saunière had betrayed by keeping hidden. Holding Sophie at gunpoint, Teabing offers Langdon the cryptex as a token of trust, hoping to coerce him into solving the final password. Langdon, however, recognizes the lie in Teabing's claim of noble purpose and decides to protect both Sophie and the Grail.

The Cryptex Unlocked

Langdon, having already deduced the password from the poem's reference to Newton's tomb, hurls the cryptex high into the air. Teabing, in a desperate lunge, catches it but falls, shattering the internal vinegar vial. The impact, however, does not destroy the papyrus; Langdon had already opened the cryptex. The dials now spell APPLE, the orb that ought to be on Newton's tomb—the fruit of Eve's fall, symbolizing the sacred feminine. Langdon calmly removes the papyrus scroll from his pocket, having read the final clue. Teabing, realizing he has been outmaneuvered, collapses in anguish, his life's work in the hands of the man he tried to manipulate.

Arrest and Aftermath

Bezu Fache, having tracked Teabing through his identification at the abbey, arrives with British police. Teabing is placed in handcuffs, screaming for Langdon to reveal the Grail's location. Langdon refuses, telling him, "Only the worthy find the Grail, Leigh. You taught me that." The arrest ends the immediate threat, but the papyrus's secret—the location of the Holy Grail—remains known only to Langdon and Sophie. Teabing's elaborate scheme, built on surveillance, murder, and manipulation, collapses, leaving him to face justice for his crimes.
