The Keystone Stolen

After the group's arrival at the Temple Church, the search for the knight's tomb is interrupted when Silas, the albino monk, reappears and takes Sophie Neveu hostage at gunpoint. Robert Langdon, holding the black cryptex, threatens to smash it on the floor to prevent its capture, a bluff that momentarily stalls the monk. From the shadows, Rémy Legaludec, Teabing's manservant, emerges and reveals his true allegiance by aiming a Medusa revolver at Teabing's back, declaring he has been waiting for this moment. Rémy forces the standoff, and when Langdon refuses to hand over the keystone, Rémy fires a warning shot into the ceiling, then threatens to kill Teabing with the next bullet. Faced with the immediate danger to his friend, Langdon reluctantly surrenders the cryptex to Silas.

With the keystone secured, Rémy drags Teabing out of the church as a hostage, using him as a shield and a potential bargaining chip. Silas covers their retreat, keeping Langdon and Sophie at gunpoint. Before leaving, Rémy taunts Sophie by hinting that she would be surprised to learn who he is working for, confirming the existence of a hidden mastermind behind the night's events. The abduction leaves Langdon and Sophie stranded in the church, their primary objective lost and their ally in mortal danger, forcing them to devise a new plan to recover the keystone and rescue Teabing.
