Meriadoc Brandybuck

Meriadoc Brandybuck, called Merry by his friends, is a hobbit of Buckland, a region east of the Brandywine River known for its peculiar and adventurous folk. His family, the Brandybucks, are considered a queer breed by the more insular hobbits of Hobbiton, who view their fondness for boats and proximity to the dark Old Forest with suspicion. Merry himself embodies this Buckland spirit, displaying a cleverness and boldness that set him apart from the typical Shire hobbit, yet his loyalty and warmth make him an indispensable companion to his cousin Frodo Baggins and their mutual friend Peregrin Took.
