Rangers of the North
The Rangers of the North, a name that conceals more than it reveals, are the last remnant of the Dúnedain, the descendants of the Númenórean exiles who once founded the great northern kingdom of Arnor. By the time of the War of the Ring, they are a wandering, weather-stained people, few in number, who patrol the wilds of Eriador and the borders of the Shire, guarding the lands of the North against the encroaching shadow of Mordor. Their identity is a paradox: they are the heirs of kings and the guardians of a land that does not know them, a people whose true nobility is hidden beneath the rough cloak of a Ranger. Their chief, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, is the central figure of this hidden legacy, and his claim to the throne of Gondor is the thread that ties their obscure wanderings to the fate of the entire West.
