Albett

Albett is a recruit of the Night's Watch at Castle Black, one of the young men training under the harsh master-at-arms Ser Alliser Thorne. He is part of the cohort that includes Jon Snow, Grenn, Pyp, Halder, Rast, and Todder, among others. His role in the story is minor, defined by his participation in the group dynamics of the recruits and his eventual assignment to the Watch's builders.

Role in the Training Yard and the Bullying of Samwell Tarly

Albett is present during the brutal introduction of Samwell Tarly to the training yard. When Ser Alliser Thorne forces the terrified and overweight Sam to fight the much stronger Halder, Albett is among the recruits who laugh at Sam's distress. Later, when Jon Snow intervenes to protect Sam, Ser Alliser orders a three-on-one fight against Jon, selecting Rast, Albett, and Halder to attack him. During the ensuing melee, Jon quickly defeats Halder, and when he then turns to face Albett and Rast, Albett, facing two swords, immediately yields, shouting, "I yield." This moment highlights his lack of personal aggression and his willingness to avoid a losing fight.

Assignment to the Builders

After completing his initial training, Albett is formally assigned to an order of the Night's Watch. When Lord Commander Jeor Mormont reads the assignments, Albett is named to the builders, alongside Halder. This places him in the order responsible for maintaining the Wall and the castles of the Watch, a role suited to practical labor rather than combat. His assignment is announced without comment or reaction, underscoring his status as an unremarkable but accepted member of the brotherhood.
