The messenger describes how Lord Brax, clad in full plate-and-mail, attempted to cross the river on a raft during the chaos and was drowned when the craft overturned. Ser Flement, wearing a silver-and-purple tabard, listens in stunned disbelief, unable to comprehend what he has just heard. The messenger offers the grim epitaph: "Lord Brax was clad in plate-and-mail when his raft overturned. He was very gallant." Tyrion Lannister, reflecting on the report, privately judges Lord Brax a fool for crossing a river at night on a crude raft while wearing armor, with an enemy waiting on the far bank.
