Pono

Pono was a ko, a war chief, in the khalasar of Khal Drogo. When Drogo fell from his horse and was left a mindless shell by Mirri Maz Duur's blood magic, the khalasar began to disintegrate. Pono was among the first to abandon the weakened khal. He named himself Khal Pono and led a great many riders away from Drogo's camp, taking with him a substantial portion of the khalasar's strength. This act of secession was part of a wider collapse; other kos, such as Jhaqo, did the same, and the once-unified horde splintered into a dozen new khalasars roaming the Dothraki sea. Pono's departure, along with the others, left Daenerys Targaryen with only a small, loyal remnant of the original forty thousand riders, forcing her to rely on her own dwindling resources and the few who remained sworn to her. His name is mentioned by Ser Jorah Mormont when he explains to Daenerys the fate of Drogo's khalasar, listing Pono as one of the key figures who broke away to forge their own following.
