Establishment of numerical communication

Grace and Rocky work to establish a shared language, starting with numbers and units. Rocky presents a clock that uses base-six numerals, and Grace reciprocates with a metric tape measure. Through a process of trial and error, they learn to communicate using musical chords, which Rocky uses as his language. Grace develops a translation software that converts Rocky's chords into English text. This painstaking but successful effort lays the foundation for their ability to share complex scientific information and collaborate on solving the Astrophage problem.
