Theo's teenage years and early twenties
Apprenticeship with Hobie
Theo settles into life with Hobie, attending an early-college program in the city. He spends his free time in Hobie's workshop, learning the craft of furniture restoration and dealing. He develops a deep knowledge and love for antiques, finding solace in the quiet, meticulous work. He also begins to secretly sell Hobie's "changelings"—reconstructed furniture pieces—as genuine antiques to pay off the shop's debts, a deception that will later cause him great trouble. This period is one of relative peace and stability, a stark contrast to his chaotic past.
