Father Returns with Xandra

Theo's father, Larry Decker, reappears unexpectedly at the Barbours' apartment, accompanied by his new girlfriend, Xandra Terrell. They have come from Las Vegas to take Theo back with them. Theo is stunned and dismayed. His father seems different—tanned, heavier, and claiming to have quit drinking. Xandra is brash and vulgar. Theo is forced to leave the safety of the Barbours' home and the nascent connection with Hobie to go live with his father in the alien world of Las Vegas.
