Theo Escapes the Museum

After Welty dies, Theo, carrying the painting in a shopping bag, navigates the devastated museum. He passes through rooms filled with the dead and injured, searching for his mother but not finding her. He eventually finds an exit into Central Park, emerging into a chaotic scene of emergency responders. He is swept away by the crowd and police, who are evacuating the area due to a second undetonated bomb. Disoriented and in shock, he walks home through the rain, believing his mother will meet him there as they had planned.
