Humbert's arrest and death
After killing Quilty, Humbert drives away in a daze, deliberately driving on the wrong side of the road. He is soon stopped by the police and arrested. He is held in a prison cell, where he writes his memoir, Lolita. He dies of coronary thrombosis on November 16, 1952, a few days before his trial is scheduled to begin. The memoir is later edited and published by John Ray, Jr.
