Humbert's search for Lolita

Humbert spends years searching for Lolita and her kidnapper, Quilty. He retraces their journey, examining hotel registers for clues left by Quilty, who taunts him with pseudonyms. The search is obsessive and fruitless, driving Humbert to the brink of madness. He has a brief relationship with a woman named Rita, who provides some comfort but cannot replace Lolita. He eventually gives up hope and settles into a life of despair.
