Settling in Beardsley

Humbert and Lolita settle in the college town of Beardsley. He enrolls her in the Beardsley School for girls, hoping to give her a semblance of normalcy. He rents a house on Thayer Street and tries to establish a routine. Lolita becomes involved in school activities, including a play called The Enchanted Hunters. Humbert is jealous and suspicious of her friendships, especially with a girl named Mona Dahl. He also becomes friends with a pedophile neighbor, Gaston Godin, who provides a false sense of security.
