Colorado Trail
NomadlandThe Colorado Trail is a route of more than 480 miles between Denver and Durango. In the book, it marks the starting point of Jen and Ash’s shift toward alternating travel and seasonal employment: their first adventure together was a nonstop hike along the trail lasting fifty-two days, after which they headed to Amazon’s warehouse in Fernley.
Route and Setting
The trail runs from Denver to Durango across more than 480 miles. The account gives no detailed description of its terrain or individual sections; its defining features here are its length and the sustained journey it demanded from the two hikers.
Jen and Ash’s Hike
For Jen and Ash, the Colorado Trail was the first adventure in a plan to combine periods of work with travel. They hiked the route nonstop for fifty-two days, making the trail an extended undertaking rather than a brief excursion.
Place in Their Itinerary
After completing the hike, Jen and Ash went to the Amazon warehouse in Fernley. They initially intended to do CamperForce while living in a Subaru Impreza hatchback, but recognized that this arrangement would not work and found a van instead. In the sequence of their plans, the Colorado Trail came before warehouse work and became the first leg of a life organized around both adventure and employment.
