Segita

Peacemaker

Segita of the Remiandi is a senior member of the Guild Council whose support for the Office of Assignments becomes an obstacle to reform after Tabini’s return. Cenedi names him among the Council members expected to resign, placing Segita’s conduct at the center of a dispute over whether the Guild can bring its assignment office back under ordinary rules.

Position on the Guild Council

Segita is identified as a senior Council member who came into office after the coup. His conservative views are explicitly not themselves at issue. The concern is instead that he and Ditema have repeatedly supported the Office of Assignments since Tabini’s return, blunting attempts to make it follow normal rules and establish an orderly, modern filing system.

Conduct and competing interpretations

Cenedi presents two possible readings of Segita’s role. He may have felt sympathy for a long-lived Guild institution and, without intending it, made it easier for the Office of Assignments to misbehave. The less forgiving interpretation is that his age and rank have overawed the Council’s less-qualified members, leaving no one willing to challenge the two senior voices. The evidence does not settle which explanation is correct; it distinguishes the potentially innocent motive from the obstructive effect.

Proposed resignation and Council change

Cenedi tells Tabini that Segita and Ditema must resign, alongside a separate presiding member whose qualifications to lead the Council are questioned. Segita’s proposed removal is part of a broader effort to counter the Office of Assignments’ influence and restore orderly Guild administration. Cenedi also reports that retired members have agreed to return to active duty, including eight former Council members, setting that planned renewal against the presence of senior figures who have pressed for Guild members not to return. The passage establishes the demand for Segita’s resignation, but does not record his response or the final outcome.
