Vianne gives Beck a list of names
Beck asks Vianne for a list of Jewish and communist teachers at her school, claiming it is for clerical purposes. In exchange, he offers to help her send letters to her imprisoned husband, Antoine. Vianne, desperate for news of Antoine, reluctantly writes the names, including her best friend Rachel de Champlain. This act fills her with shame and guilt.
