Exploring Rebecca's Room

The narrator goes to the west wing and enters Rebecca's bedroom. It is fully furnished, as if waiting for her return. She sees the brushes, the dressing-gown, the slippers, and the nightdress case. She touches them, feeling a growing horror. Mrs Danvers appears and shows her everything, describing Rebecca's life and death in intimate detail. She tells the narrator that Maxim is still in hell and that Rebecca's spirit still watches them. The narrator is terrified and runs back to her room.
