Lunch with Beatrice and Giles
Beatrice and Giles Lacy come to lunch. Beatrice is direct and outspoken, and the narrator feels awkward. Beatrice comments on Maxim's health and the narrator's appearance. Frank Crawley, the agent, is also there. The conversation is strained at times, especially when the narrator asks about bathing in the bay, which leads to an awkward silence. After lunch, Beatrice tells the narrator she is very different from Rebecca.
