First Encounter with Mrs Danvers
After tea, Mrs Danvers shows the narrator to her new rooms in the east wing. She is cold and critical, implying the rooms are inferior to those in the west wing. She mentions that the west wing was where the first Mrs de Winter lived, and that the large bedroom there looked down to the sea. The narrator feels uncomfortable and intimidated. Mrs Danvers leaves when Maxim arrives, and he tells the narrator not to worry about her.
