Dorian Gray summons his former friend, the scientist Alan Campbell, and forces him to destroy Basil's body using chemical means. He blackmails Campbell with a letter that threatens his reputation. Campbell, horrified but trapped, agrees and carries out the gruesome task, then leaves, never to see Dorian again.
