Dorian destroys the portrait and dies

In a final act of desperation, Dorian Gray seizes the knife used to kill Basil and stabs the portrait. A terrible cry is heard, and when the servants break in, they find a withered, loathsome old man lying dead on the floor with a knife in his heart, while the portrait on the wall has been restored to its original youthful beauty.
