Dorian's wish for eternal youth

Basil Hallward completes the portrait of Dorian Gray. When Dorian sees it, he is overwhelmed by his own beauty and the realization that it will fade while the portrait will remain young forever. In a moment of anguish, he passionately wishes that the picture would age instead of him, declaring he would give anything for that exchange. Lord Henry and Basil are startled by his intensity.
