The alchemist convinces Santiago that he must leave the oasis and Fatima to fulfill his destiny. Santiago bids a tearful farewell to Fatima, who tells him that true love will not hold him back and that she will wait for him. He then departs with the alchemist, riding into the desert toward the Pyramids.
