Santiago's digging at the Pyramids and being beaten

Santiago reaches the Pyramids and, guided by his heart, begins to dig where his tears fall. He finds nothing. He is attacked by refugees from the tribal wars, who beat him and steal his gold. As he lies bleeding, one of the men mocks him, revealing that he too had a recurrent dream—of a treasure buried at a ruined church in Spain where a sycamore grows. This revelation gives Santiago the final clue.
