Arya is blinded by the kindly man as punishment for killing Dareon, a deserter from the Night's Watch. She must learn to use her other senses.

She becomes Blind Beth, a beggar in the streets of Braavos. She uses a stick to navigate and learns to rely on smell and hearing.

Despite her blindness, Arya continues her training in the House of Black and White. She learns to detect lies and to fight without sight.

The kindly man gives Arya her first assassination mission: to kill an insurance merchant. She must use a new face and identity.
The Preparation
Arya studies her target and plans the kill. She uses a finger knife to cut his purse and then poisons him with a coin.
The Success
She completes the mission and returns to the House of Black and White. She is given a new face and begins to learn more advanced skills.

The New Face
Arya is given a new face, that of an ugly girl with a broken nose. She is sent to apprentice with a mummer named Izembaro.
The Performance
She learns to act and to change her appearance. She is still a servant of the Many-Faced God, but her training takes a new direction.
The Future
Arya's identity remains fluid. She is no one, but she still remembers her list of names. The book ends with her continuing her training.
