Galazza Galare, known as the Green Grace, is the high priestess of the Temple of the Graces in Meereen, a position that makes her the spiritual leader of the city's Ghiscari population. She is a woman of immense age and wisdom, her face hidden behind shimmering green veils, and her counsel is sought by both the queen and the Great Masters. She acts as a crucial bridge between Daenerys Targaryen, the foreign conqueror, and the native Meereenese nobility, whose traditions and customs she embodies and interprets.
Role as Advisor and Mediator
Galazza Galare is a constant presence at Daenerys's court, offering advice that is both politically astute and deeply rooted in Ghiscari tradition. She warns the queen that the Meereenese see her as a barbarian conqueror and that to rule effectively, she must adopt their customs, specifically the tokar. "The Mother of Dragons must don the tokar or be forever hated," she tells Dany, arguing that Meereen's queen must be "a lady of Old Ghis." This counsel is pragmatic, aimed at reconciling the city to Dany's rule. She also urges Dany to marry a highborn Ghiscari king, specifically Hizdahr zo Loraq, arguing that a king of pure Ghiscari blood could reconcile the city and end the nightly slaughter by the Sons of the Harpy. "When my people look at you, they see a conqueror from across the seas," she explains. "A king could change that."
Advocacy for Peace and Tradition
The Green Grace is a consistent voice for peace, acceptance, and obedience to lawful authority. She supports the reopening of the fighting pits, arguing that it would please the gods and win support against the Sons of the Harpy. She is instrumental in arranging the marriage between Daenerys and Hizdahr, seeing it as the only path to lasting peace. When the peace is signed, she is present at the wedding ceremony in the Temple of the Graces, officiating the rites. Relationship with Daenerys and the Court
