Elyria

Elyria is a Ghiscari city-state situated on the coast of Slaver's Bay, one of the ancient slaving ports that trace their origins to the Old Empire of Ghis. In the political landscape of A Dance with Dragons, Elyria is aligned with Yunkai and the other slaver cities that oppose Daenerys Targaryen's rule in Meereen. Its ships join the naval blockade of Meereen, and its soldiers are part of the coalition army that besieges the city. The city is also a place of diplomatic and commercial connections: Hizdahr zo Loraq, the Meereenese nobleman who becomes Daenerys's husband and king, is said to have kin in Elyria, as well as in Tolos and New Ghis, and to wield some influence there. This network of family and trade ties makes Elyria one of the nodes in the web of Ghiscari power that Daenerys must contend with. The city's involvement in the war against the dragon queen is part of the broader conflict between the old slaving order and the forces of abolition that Daenerys represents.
