Battle Valley is a region in the riverlands, its name a testament to the centuries of conflict that have scarred the land. It is one of the territories that Lord Jonos Bracken of Stone Hedge claimed as his rightful possession after bending the knee to the Iron Throne following the Red Wedding. During a parley with Jaime Lannister at Raventree Hall, Bracken presented a map detailing the lands he asserted had been stolen from his house by the Blackwoods, a list that included Battle Valley alongside other holdings such as Crossbow Ridge, Rutting Meadow, and the villages of Buckle and Blackbuckle. Jaime Lannister, acting as the king's envoy, took the map but made no immediate promises, noting that Bracken had only "partly subdued" the Blackwoods and that the final disposition of the lands would be determined later. The valley's name evokes the long and bloody history of the Bracken-Blackwood feud, a rivalry that, according to Hoster Blackwood, has persisted for thousands of years, with each peace eventually shattered by fresh quarrels and old wounds reopening. The valley thus stands as a symbol of the intractable nature of the conflict, a piece of ground soaked in ancestral grievances that no single treaty could easily resolve.
