Ship

The Ship was a tavern and brothel in the Ragman's Harbor district of Braavos, a place well known to Cat of the Canals during her time selling cockles, mussels, and clams for the fishmonger Brusco. It was one of the establishments where Cat had been a familiar figure, and where she had learned the rhythms of the waterfront. The Ship was also a place where the blind girl, wearing the face of Beth, chose to avoid, knowing that her former identity as Cat might be recognized there. She stayed away from the Ship and the Happy Port and the other places where Cat had been best known, to keep her new disguise safe.

A Place of Intelligence and Danger

Later, when the blind girl was serving the Many-Faced God, she overheard three Lyseni sailors at Pynto's tavern discussing the slave ship Goodheart, which had been seized by the Sealord's guards. The Lyseni spoke of how the Goodheart and another ship, the Elephant, had been driven north by a storm and had anchored off Hardhome, where they found thousands of starving wildlings. The Lyseni had offered to take only the women and children, but once at sea, they drove them below and roped them up, intending to sell them all in Lys. The blind girl learned that the Goodheart had been so damaged that her captain had no choice but to put in at Braavos, but the Elephant may have made it back to Lys, and the Lyseni believed she would return with more ships to capture more slaves from Hardhome. This intelligence was reported to the kindly man as one of the three new things she had learned.

A Place of Memory and Transformation

The Ship was also a place of memory for the girl who had been Arya Stark. It was one of the locations where she had once been Cat of the Canals, a life that seemed distant after her training in the House of Black and White. The Ship represented a past identity that she had shed, a life of selling shellfish and navigating the docks, a life that was now replaced by the service of the Many-Faced God. The Ship was a landmark in the geography of her former life, a place she now avoided to maintain her new, hidden existence.
