Yronwood is the ancient seat of House Yronwood, one of the most powerful noble houses in Dorne, located in the eastern part of the principality. The castle is situated in high meadows where the air is crisp and cool after dark, a stark contrast to the oppressive heat of Volantis and Slaver's Bay. It is ruled by Lord Anders Yronwood, the Bloodroyal, Warden of the Stone Way, whose family has a long and storied history in Dorne.

Identity and Setting

Yronwood is a castle of considerable size and importance, serving as the stronghold of House Yronwood. The surrounding lands are characterized by high meadows and a climate that offers relief from the heat of lower Dorne. The castle is the home of Lord Anders Yronwood, his daughter Ynys, his son and heir Ser Cletus Yronwood, his younger daughter Gwyneth, and his cousin Ser Archibald Yronwood. It is also the place where Quentyn Martell was fostered, spending much of his youth there.

Role in Quentyn Martell's Journey

Yronwood is the starting point for Quentyn Martell's ill-fated quest to win the hand of Daenerys Targaryen. It was from his father's castle that Cletus Yronwood declared their journey would be "a tale to tell our grandchildren." Quentyn's companions on this journey included Cletus Yronwood, Willam Wells, and Maester Kedry, all of whom perished before reaching their destination. The castle also houses Gwyneth Yronwood, Lord Anders's youngest daughter, who had expressed a desire to marry Quentyn, telling him he had to wait for her to flower. Quentyn's memories of Yronwood are tied to his youth, including his first kiss from one of the Drinkwater twins, daughters of a landed knight, and his infatuation with Ynys, Lord Yronwood's eldest daughter.
