Qhoyne

The Qhoyne, called the Darkling Daughter, is one of the principal tributaries of the great Rhoyne. It joins the Mother Rhoyne at Dagger Lake, a stretch of river notorious for pirates who lurk in hidden caves and secret strongholds among the islands. The Qhoyne's waters carry gold and amber from the Axe and pine-cones from the Forest of Qohor, marking it as a river of trade and natural wealth. Yandry, the Dornish-born poleboat captain, describes the Qhoyne as rushing into the Rhoyne at Dagger Lake, where the river widens and becomes more treacherous. The river's course runs through lands that are largely lawless, with no authority above the Sorrows for a thousand years, making it a haunt for escaped slaves and pirates alike. The Qhoyne's confluence with the Rhoyne at Dagger Lake is a key geographical landmark for travelers on the Shy Maid, as it marks the transition into the most dangerous part of the journey downstream toward Volantis.
