Sea Dragon Point

Sea Dragon Point is a remote, thinly populated peninsula on the western coast of the North, between the Bay of Ice and the Stony Shore. It is a land of bogs, hills, and ancient ruins, with two long coastlines, a hundred hidden coves, otters in the lakes, salmon in the rivers, clams along the shore, colonies of seals offshore, and tall pines for building ships. The land is too wet for wheat or corn, and there are no mines, no gold, no silver, not even tin or iron. Old ruins can still be found amongst its hills and bogs, the remains of ancient strongholds of the First Men, and in the high places there are weirwood circles left by the children of the forest.

Asha Greyjoy's Plan for a New Kingdom

After her defeat at the kingsmoot and the loss of her father Balon Greyjoy's conquests, Asha Greyjoy considered making a kingdom of her own at Sea Dragon Point. She had hostages on Harlaw, and she believed that if she could not have her father's kingdom, she could make one of her own. She envisioned ruling over a realm of seals and otters, and building ships from the tall pines. However, her supporter Tristifer Botley dismissed the idea, arguing that the land had nothing that anyone could ever want, and that she would have no subjects for her kingdom if the northmen let her have it. Asha herself acknowledged that otters might be easier to rule than men, and that seals are smarter.

Narrative Significance

Sea Dragon Point represents Asha Greyjoy's last, desperate hope for independence and a future of her own making, a stark contrast to the bleak choices of submitting to her husband Erik Ironmaker or returning to the Iron Islands to face her uncle Euron. The plan is ultimately impractical, highlighting the collapse of her ambitions and the narrowing of her options as she faces the overwhelming power of the northmen and the indifference of her own people.
