The Trip to Karnstein

Laura's father decided to take Laura and Madame Perrodon on a drive to the ruined village and castle of Karnstein. On the way, they unexpectedly met General Spielsdorf, who was also heading to the ruins. The General, looking aged and grim, agreed to join them. He was clearly consumed by a mission of vengeance, and he began to tell a story that would reveal the horrifying truth about Carmilla. The journey to Karnstein set the stage for the story's climax.
