The Woodman's Tale of the Moravian Nobleman

At the Karnstein chapel, the General and Laura's father spoke with an old woodman. He told them a local legend about a Moravian nobleman who had rid the village of a vampire. The nobleman had watched from the chapel tower, seen the vampire leave its grave, and then tricked it into climbing the tower, where he beheaded it. The woodman also mentioned that the vampire was believed to be Mircalla, Countess Karnstein, and that her tomb had been secretly moved long ago. This story provided the key to finding and destroying the vampire.
