Yossarian vs. Nately's Whore

The violent, one-sided conflict as Nately's whore tries to kill Yossarian for Nately's death.

First attack

The Rage The News Yossarian breaks the news of Nately's death. She attacks him with a potato peeler. She calls him "Bruto." The Struggle They fight. She is strong and determined. Yossarian subdues her but is injured. She tries to seduce him to get close enough to kill him. The Escape Yossarian flees. She pursues him to Pianosa. The conflict is now a vendetta.

Ambush in Pianosa

The Pursuit The Disguise Nately's whore disguises herself as a mechanic and waits at the airstrip. She stabs at Yossarian but misses. The Second Escape Yossarian and Hungry Joe fly her back to Rome and push her out with a parachute. She returns again. The Persistence She is relentless. She hides in bushes, in the hospital. She is a constant threat.

The final stabbing

The Attack The Knife As Yossarian leaves Cathcart's office, Nately's whore stabs him in the side. He is seriously wounded. The Aftermath He is hospitalized. The attack inadvertently helps him: it gives him time to reconsider the deal. He eventually escapes. The End The conflict is unresolved. She is still out there, waiting. Yossarian's final leap is also an escape from her.
