Linda reveals Willy's suicidal intent

After Willy goes outside, Linda tells Biff and Happy that Willy has been trying to kill himself. She describes finding a rubber hose attached to the gas pipe in the cellar, and she reveals that the insurance company suspects his car accidents were deliberate. Linda is desperate and tells Biff that Willy's life is in his hands. This revelation shocks both sons and forces Biff to confront the seriousness of his father's condition. Linda's speech, 'Attention must be paid,' is a powerful plea for recognition of Willy's humanity.
