Willy plants seeds in the dark

Outside, in the blue light of night, Willy is planting seeds with a flashlight. He talks to himself about the vegetables he will grow, but his mind is on his insurance policy and the twenty thousand dollars it will bring. Ben appears again, and Willy discusses his plan to kill himself so that Biff will get the insurance money. Ben warns that Biff might call him a coward, but Willy insists that the funeral will be massive and that Biff will finally see how well-liked he is. The scene reveals Willy's final, desperate decision.
