Lauds of the Second Day
Discovery of Venantius's Body
During the morning office, the discovery of a second corpse throws the abbey into chaos. Venantius of Salvemec, the Greek scholar, is found dead, thrust headfirst into a jar of pigs' blood. William examines the scene and deduces that Venantius was killed elsewhere and brought to the jar. He finds tracks in the snow leading from the Aedificium, suggesting the murder is connected to the library.
