Attempt to Sell the Pearl to Dealers
Kino, Juana, and the procession arrive at the office of the first pearl buyer. The buyer, after examining the pearl, offers only a thousand pesos, claiming it is too large and a curiosity. Kino refuses. The buyer calls in three other dealers, who also disparage the pearl and offer low prices. Kino realizes they are colluding and angrily takes back his pearl, declaring he will go to the capital.
