Kino Broods and Decides to Leave
Back in his house, Kino broods over his failed sale. He is afraid of the unknown capital but feels he has no choice. Juan Tomás warns him that he is defying the whole structure of their society. Kino decides to leave for the capital in the morning. That night, he is attacked again outside his house and severely beaten. Juana again pleads with him to destroy the pearl, but Kino refuses, saying he is a man.
