Trackers Pursue the Family

Kino spots three trackers on the road: two on foot and one on horseback carrying a rifle. He knows they are hunting him. He and Juana flee into the mountains, moving in zigzags to confuse the trackers. Juana refuses to leave Kino, insisting they stay together. They struggle up the steep, rocky slope toward a cleft in the mountains, hoping to find water and a place to hide.
