Journey to the Capitol

Katniss and Peeta board a high-speed train to the Capitol. Katniss is amazed by the luxury of the train, with hot showers, fine clothes, and abundant food. She pins the mockingjay pin on her shirt and reflects on its meaning: the mockingjay is a hybrid bird that symbolizes rebellion against the Capitol. During dinner, Effie Trinket makes condescending comments about District 12's manners. Haymitch arrives drunk, vomits, and passes out. Peeta and Katniss help him to his room, and Katniss decides to keep her distance from Peeta to avoid emotional entanglement.
