The Berry Incident

After Cato's death, Claudius Templesmith revokes the rule change, declaring only one winner can survive. Katniss and Peeta refuse to kill each other. Katniss pulls out the nightlock berries, and they prepare to eat them together, forcing the Gamemakers to either let both live or have no victor. At the last moment, Claudius announces both are victors. They spit out the berries and are rescued. The act is seen as rebellion by the Capitol, but they play it as a desperate act of love.
