The Final Confrontation

The Gamemakers drain the water sources, driving the remaining tributes to the lake. Cato appears, wearing body armor. He is pursued by muttations—wolf-like creatures with the eyes of the dead tributes. Katniss, Peeta, and Cato climb the Cornucopia to escape. Cato captures Peeta, but Katniss shoots an arrow through Cato's hand, freeing Peeta. Cato falls to the mutts, who maul him. Katniss and Peeta endure a night of listening to Cato's suffering. At dawn, Katniss kills Cato with an arrow to end his misery.
