Oz Giving Brain, Heart, and Courage

Oz gives the Scarecrow a head stuffed with bran, pins, and needles, calling it brains. He gives the Tin Woodman a silk heart stuffed with sawdust, placing it in his chest. He gives the Lion a green liquid to drink, claiming it is courage. The companions are satisfied, believing they have received what they sought. Oz then promises to take Dorothy home in a balloon he will build. This event fulfills the companions' wishes in a symbolic, non-magical way, highlighting the theme that true qualities come from within.
