The Balloon Launch

Oz builds a large green silk balloon and a basket. He announces he will go with Dorothy. The balloon is filled with hot air from a fire. As it tugs at the ropes, Oz calls for Dorothy to hurry, but she cannot find Toto. She finally finds him, but as she runs toward the basket, the ropes break and the balloon rises without her. Oz floats away, calling goodbye. The people of the Emerald City accept the Scarecrow as their new ruler. This event dashes Dorothy's hope of returning home with Oz and forces her to seek another way.
