The Rescue by the Field Mice

While Dorothy sleeps, the Tin Woodman kills a Wildcat that is chasing a field mouse. The mouse reveals herself as the Queen of the Field Mice and offers to help. The Scarecrow asks her to summon thousands of mice, each with a piece of string. The Tin Woodman builds a truck, and the mice are harnessed to it. They pull the sleeping Lion out of the poppy field to fresh air. The Queen promises future aid and gives Dorothy a whistle to call them. The Lion awakens, grateful. This event highlights the kindness of small creatures and the theme of mutual aid.
