The Return to Kansas
Glinda reveals that the Silver Shoes have the power to carry Dorothy anywhere in three steps. Dorothy bids an emotional farewell to her friends, hugging each one. She takes Toto in her arms, knocks her heels together three times, and says, 'Take me home to Aunt Em!' Instantly she is whirled through the air. She lands on the Kansas prairie, in front of the new farmhouse. The Silver Shoes fall off and are lost in the desert. Aunt Em comes out and embraces her, overjoyed. Dorothy exclaims, 'I'm so glad to be at home again!' This event concludes the story with Dorothy's safe return, emphasizing the theme that there is no place like home.
